Steam distilled from the flowering plants in Spain, Thyme has a spicy, warm, herbaceous aroma that is both powerful and penetrating.  A solution of thyme's most active ingredient, thymol, is used in many over-the-counter products such as mouthwash and vapor rubs because of its purifying properties.
